Book Pages with Distracting Items

Once in a while, relearning a course or topic already studied is a good idea.  Usually, the old books are more comfortable to use for this self-directed study.  WHY?  The older books are often clearly worded and have fairly simple but precise graphic and caption displays.  Many modern books have extra messages and too many colored pictures not well related to the topic of the page.  This extra messages and pictures and figure are visually distracting and this makes the pages more complicated to use.  This is NOT to blame all newer books, since some may be composed with fewer extra items on the pages, or might otherwise still have well chosen and composed text.

Go ahead! Disagree if you wish.
